3. Silver Oak Cellars
Silver Oak Cellars might have two worthy locations in Wine Country, but their original spot in Oakville is hard to beat. Although most of their original historic buildings were destroyed in a 2006 wildfire, their redesign by San Francisco architect firm Piechota Architecture is stunning, with barn-style gabled ceilings and views of vineyards that reach to the horizon. The rebuild also gave them the opportunity to make the winery production facility more eco-friendly, while allowing them to take their beloved Cabernet up a notch, too. You can get a sneak peek at their sustainable practices on the Silver Tasting and Tour, where you’ll get to go behind the scenes in the production area and cellar with a glass of current release wine in hand.
Insider Tip: Silver Oak offers a range of tasting options to meet different interests, from culinary pairings to vertical tastings. Despite its prestige, however, the winery also offers a few budget-friendly options, like wines by the glass—which can be enjoyed in an Adirondack chair on their patio. Another great choice is their Bar Tasting, which includes two of their current release wines and a little insight into the winery itself for just $25.
