Wine Country Inn was founded by Ned Smith in 1975, and started as a bed and breakfast, built and decorated with the help of Ned’s wife and five children. Over the years, Wine Country Inn has evolved to become more of a luxurious boutique hotel, but it’s never lost its personal, B&B feel. The antique-filled property has a wide range of rooms and cottages to suit every budget, and the vineyard and orchard views, homey decor, and gardens make for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Wine Country Inn really encourages visitors to “unplug”—the rooms do not have TVs, but board games are available for entertainment.

RustRidge Ranch & Winery

This secluded property in St. Helena is located on what was once a large thoroughbred horse ranch. Owners Jim and Susan Meyer continue the ranch’s legacy today by breeding thoroughbreds each spring, in addition to fulfilling their passion for wine by growing grapes, including cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, and zinfandel. Quaint and rustic, their B&B offers rooms that overlook the vineyards, featuring queen featherbeds and some with private en suite bathrooms. In true B&B form, a stay includes hearty, ranch-style breakfasts each morning.

In the evenings, plan to take advantage of wine and appetizers available to guests, which includes a sampling of RustRidge wines made from their estate vines.

Spanish Villa Inn

Located 8 miles off of the Silverado Trail, the Spanish Villa Inn is a quiet and serene getaway surrounded by forest. The cozy rooms feature hand-carved Spanish headboards, antique lamps, and floral linens: elements that align well with Mediterranean influences like clay tiles and rounded archways, and enhance the relaxing, secluded environment of the property. The property offers diversions like bocce, rose gardens, and a library including books from the 17th century.

Vineyard Country Inn is a bed and breakfast inspired by the French countryside. The farmhouse reflects influences of old-world charm such as brick fireplaces and wooden ceiling beams, but the new world is ever-present in the Vineyard Country Inn’s comfortable furnishings and modern amenities like wi-fi and in-suite wet bars. Breakfast is served in a spacious room overlooking the surrounding vineyards, where a wood-burning fireplace, and candelabra chandeliers transport the imagination to a French farmhouse.

Napa Farmhouse Inn

Just a glimpse of the Victorian, canary-yellow Napa Farmhouse Inn, with shady trees and peaceful gardens, has been known to relax visitors. Built in the 1860s, the old home sits on three acres of organic gardens, and this home-grown bounty is on full display at brunch. Owners Ed and Mimi Brown have great style—the farmhouse-chic sensibility serves to elevate the ambiance of the place, and the rooms are cozily wallpapered in floral prints and appointed with custom French-style beds covered in soft linens.

Inn St Helena

Centrally located on Main Street, Ambrose Bierce House is a new venture. Featuring a Victorian country vibe with fresh, updated touches, this boutique bed and breakfast consists of two houses next door to each other. The main house is home to five rooms, as well as the reception area and breakfast room, whereas the cottage house next door has three spacious accommodations. A different breakfast is served each day of the week.
